Is Your Chimney Showing Its Age
Over time, even the sturdiest chimneys in Yorkshire homes can start to feel the effects of wind, rain, and frost. Crumbling mortar, loose bricks, or even a leaning stack aren't just eyesores – they can be real issues, potentially letting water into your home or causing safety hazards. We see all sorts of chimney problems across Leeds and the surrounding areas, from minor pointing needing attention to more significant structural repairs. Addressing these early is key to protecting your property and preventing costlier damage down the line.

Why Choose LDC Roofing?
Common Chimney Problems We Tackle in Leeds
Lots of things can go wrong with a chimney, especially with the weather we get around here. You might notice damp patches appearing on walls near the chimney breast upstairs, which often points to failing flashing where the chimney meets the roof. Or maybe you've spotted bricks looking worn or bits of mortar falling out? This 'pointing' deteriorating is really common and needs fixing to stop water getting in. We also regularly deal with damaged chimney pots, cracked render, or issues with the leadwork around the base of the stack. Whatever the problem, big or small, ignoring it usually just makes it worse.
Why Timely Chimney Repair is So Important
Putting off chimney repairs might seem like saving money in the short term, but it rarely works out that way. A small crack can let in water that freezes and expands, making the damage much bigger over winter. Leaks around the chimney can cause damp, rot in your roof timbers, and damage ceilings and plasterwork inside your home. Crucially, a damaged chimney stack itself can become unstable, posing a serious safety risk. Getting it looked at promptly by a professional is the safest and most cost-effective approach.
Our Approach to Chimney Repairs
When you call LDC Roofing about a chimney issue, we start with a thorough inspection to understand exactly what's happening. We'll assess the brickwork, pointing, leadwork, flashing, pots, and overall structure. Once we've diagnosed the problem, we'll explain it clearly and give you a transparent quote for the necessary repairs. Our team uses quality materials suited to the Yorkshire climate and traditional techniques alongside modern methods to ensure a durable fix. Whether it's simple re-pointing, replacing damaged bricks, fixing flashing, or rebuilding a section of the stack, we complete the work professionally and safely.

Does Your Chimney Support a Fireplace or Stove
While our primary focus here is on the structure and weatherproofing of the chimney itself, we understand that for many, the chimney is connected to a working fire or stove. Keeping the external structure sound is vital for the safe and efficient operation of your fireplace or stove. If your chimney is leaking or unstable, it can affect the draw and function, as well as potentially cause damp issues inside the flue. We can work alongside chimney sweep professionals to ensure the entire system, from firebox to chimney pot, is in good order – handling the external repair side while they handle the internal cleaning and inspection needed for a safety certificate.
Reviews
The source of the leak was identified and other problems. Photos were sent to explain the problem. I was offered a choice of level of repairs. They turned up when estimated and carried out work without disturbing neighbours. I received photos of work. Great job hard workers and they made it easy to understand what they were doing.
Luke and his team answered straight away and came out the same day as requested (only a couple of hours). Despite windy conditions, they put their ladders up and inspected the roof. They instantly diagnosed a few issues and took photos with their phone to show me exactly what the pressing issues were. They removed the broken tiles (including ridge one) and made new ones to replace them. Again, they took photos to show me their work and the results. They stuck to an agreed, very reasonable pricing and were both very personable and helpful throughout their work. Would fully recommend.
Luke at LDC roofing arrived on time, and immediately inspected the chimney, assured me that the lead flashing did not need replacing with new (as I had been led to believe by other people) as it had no splits and was still in serviceable condition. He then reformed the lead around the chimney, and resealed everywhere. He was efficient and well mannered, and his price was very reasonable, I would certainly highly recommend Luke and LDC roofing.
